About us

We are group of researchers based at the Institute of Botany in Průhonice, Czechia, with expertize in plant ecology, GIS, remote sensing, microclimate, species distribution modelling, hydrophysiology, disturbance ecology. We explore vegetation dynamics in a changing world, including plant-climate interactions, forest recovery following major disturbances, water uptake of trees and biodiversity on scales from organism to global scale.
2023
Transition to the Department of Geoecology
In 2023, we became the Department of Geoecology, reflecting our shift from a method-oriented approach to a greater emphasis on spatio-temporal ecological research.
2009
Focus on Microclimate
Our focus shifted to microclimate with the initiation of a small project in 2009, monitoring forest microclimates. This project has since grown into our primary research area, encompassing over 1,000 permanent plots where we measure microclimate and record vegetation composition.
2007
Formation of an Independent Department
In 2007, we separated and established the Department of Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing.
1998
The Beginning of Our Journey
Our journey began in 1998 as a group of researchers focused on geoinformatics at the former Department of Geobotany at the Institute of Botany of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
